Time to wake up, everyone!
Is there any songs written about Tuesday?
Good Morning!!!!
What's brewing in the mug? My 'ol standby-decaf, black, and hot.
Go Red Wings!!!
Congrats to all the walkers this past weekend!!! 10K-WOW that's over 6 miles-way to go!
QOTD-Have you done anything to be more "green"? We are trying to be more conscientious about recycling. I've also switched to the reusable grocery bags, even though I get the plastics occasionally for dog droppings when we go for a walk. I haven't tried the new fabrics made of bamboo. Who would have known that you can have bamboo pillowcases. Go figure!!!
Looks like a dry Tuesday!!!

Howdy Deb and everyone yet to wake up.
I am at work trying to balance my business checkbook.  I just can't find that $343 and it is making me crazy!

I'm drinking sf Hawaiian Punch berry lemonade this morning.  Waiting for the ol poucheroo to empty so I can take my iron.

QOTD-I am so excited!!!  My city is starting a recycling program next week.  You get a container with a chip in it that tells the truck your address.  The city keeps track of how much you recycle and you can earn gift cards for places like Meijer or Costco or yucky Sam's club.  I think it's a great idea and can't wait to get started.

Ok, back to that checkbook.  Wish me luck!  Have a great day.

What a great incentive to get people to recycle.  I've always recycled since moving to Canada 15 years ago.  You'll be amazed at how much less garbage you have.  The do pick it up at the curb.  They've had the reusable grocery bags for a while now.  I think they're great and they can hold a lot more stuff too.

How about Ruby Tuesday by the Rolling Stones?

Tonight is the night for the Wings for sure!

I try hard to recycle-batteries, paper, plastic.  Canton makes it pretty easy because we can recycle right at the curb, but I used to have to store and cart everything to a recycling center, and that required a bit more effort.

Bamboo is a hot material right now-I guess you can make everything out of it if you work at it, but I know bamboo flooring is very expensive, so  I wonder if the cloth is too.

Happy Tuesday, Michigan!

Hey all!

I'm tired this morning ... just wanted to stay in bed and hide under the covers today.  But I dragged my butt to work anyway.  Skipped coffee this morning and doing my SF Grape instead.

QOTD -- well, I'm an official, card-carrying Gar*****  "If you can't recycle with the big dogs, get off the curb!"  In a former job I was the Recycling Education Manager for the Saginaw area and taught environmental classes to 3rd and 4th graders.  If you haven't introduced worm composting to a bunch of kids, you simply haven't experienced life.  Unfortunately I don't have a curbside recycling program at my house, but I've heard we'll be getting it soon.  I probably don't do as much as I should - especially considering my background and group of friends who are tree-huggers -- but I do what I can.

Pam!!!!
I have been wanting to start a mini compost pile with my son for the past year.  Do you have any tips on how to get started?  I have been searching online, but every website seems to have different advice.

ETA: I don't want to put my son in the compost, just do this with him as an activity.  LOL

Well... it depends on how big you want it to be.  You can make a small one in a recycling bin or rubbermaid tub.  Or you can make a bit one using old pallets or fencing in a corner of your yard.  Basically you'll need to start with some compost or good top soil, then I'd always add in some newspapers that where torn into strips (this makes a good bed for the worms to start making their home)... add some leaves or grass clippings (not too much at the beginning) and some kitchen scraps (produce only, no meat). Make sure the food scraps are covered with dirt.  Get some Red Wiggler worms from the local bait shop or buy them online.  And just let it sit for a while.  Once a week, go out with a rake or hoe and turn the pile.

The rule is.... if you do it right, you'll have compost in 3 months.  If you do it wrong, you'll still have compost, but it'll take a couple years.

Here's a couple options for making a compost pile/bin:

I usually make "worm farms" with my classes in April.  I love doing them and the kids REALLY get into it.  They are fun!
